MD Live supports American Sign Language (ASL) and Live Captioning video appointments for patients who are deaf or hard-of-hearing for urgent care, mental health, and primary care visits. With the ASL option, a certified ASL interpreter joins the visit to assist with real-time language translation between you and your doctor using voice and sign language. The Live Captioning option will have a certified CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) captioner to translate spoken words into real-time text. Additionally, patients can communicate with a doctor through our secure, HIPAA-compliant live chat feature during their visit, which functions like text messaging. To use these options, select "ASL," "Live Captioning," or “Provider Chat” under the Accessibility Assistance section when scheduling a visit. Visits using ASL or Live Captioning must be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance.
ASL, Live Captioning, and live chat are currently only available on the web portal, not the mobile app.
